Warranty & consumer rights

Our warranty.
Your rights.

Our repair warranty is an extra promise from The iPhone Guy. It does not replace or limit the consumer guarantees that may apply under the Australian Consumer Law.

Our repair warranty

12 months on replacement repair parts.

If a replacement part we supplied as part of a repair develops a covered defect during the warranty period, bring the device back and we'll assess it.

What we cover

Replacement repair parts supplied by The iPhone Guy are covered for 12 months against covered defects, subject to these terms and your rights under Australian Consumer Law.

What happens next

We may need to inspect and test the device to determine whether the reported issue relates to the repair, the replacement part, or a separate fault.

Consumer guarantees continue

The 12-month period is our additional warranty. It is not a statement that your rights under Australian Consumer Law end after 12 months.

Warranty assessment

What can affect a warranty claim.

Not every later fault is a defect in the part we replaced. We assess the device and the cause of the reported problem.

Covered defect

If the replacement repair part develops a defect covered by our warranty, we'll assess the appropriate remedy under our warranty terms and applicable consumer law.

Subsequent damage

New physical damage or liquid exposure after the repair is not treated as a defect in the replacement part merely because it occurs during the warranty period.

Separate or secondary faults

A fault elsewhere in the device may be unrelated to the part previously replaced. Damage or deterioration arising from the device's original condition may also require separate assessment.

Specialist repairs

Board-level, liquid-damage and data-recovery work can involve devices with significant pre-existing damage. Any warranty that applies is assessed against the specific work performed and does not remove rights that apply under law.

Making a claim

Bring the device back to us.

Tell us what has happened and, where available, provide your repair receipt or job details so we can identify the original repair.

01
Contact or visit us

You can start at any current open The iPhone Guy store or call 0403 976 742.

02
We identify the original repair

Your receipt or job details help us locate the repair record and the work previously performed.

03
We assess the reported problem

We may inspect and test the device to determine whether the issue is connected with the previous repair.

04
We explain the outcome

If the issue is covered, we'll explain the remedy. If we believe it is a separate fault or new damage, we'll explain what we found before further paid work is undertaken.

Australian Consumer Law

Mandatory consumer guarantee wording.

The following statement applies to our warranty against defects for repairs involving goods and services.

Australian Consumer Law — goods and services

Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled:

• to cancel your service contract with us; and
• to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value.

You are also entitled to choose a refund or replacement for major failures with goods.

If a failure with the goods or a service does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have the failure rectified in a reasonable time. If this is not done you are entitled to a refund for the goods and to cancel the contract for the service and obtain a refund of any unused portion.

You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage from a failure in the goods or service.

Consumer guarantees are automatic rights. Our 12-month parts warranty is additional to those rights and does not exclude, restrict or replace them.

Claim expenses

Bring the device to one of our current open stores where practical. If you expect to incur postage, transport or another expense in making a warranty claim, contact us first so the appropriate arrangements can be discussed.

Proof of repair

Your receipt or job details are the easiest way for us to locate the repair. If you cannot find them, contact us and we'll try to identify the repair from the information available.

Separate repair notice

Before we accept a device for repair.

Australian Consumer Law also has repair-notice requirements that are separate from this warranty page.

Devices that store data

Before accepting a data-storing product for repair, the required written notice must warn that the repair may result in loss of user data.

Refurbished parts or goods

Where the refurbished-parts rules apply, the repair notice must also contain the prescribed wording required by Australian Consumer Law.

The website is not the notice

This page is general information. The required repair notice must be provided in writing before the product is accepted for repair; simply directing a customer to a website is not enough.

Warranty FAQ

A few important distinctions.

If you're unsure whether a problem is related to a previous repair, bring it back and let us assess it.

Does the warranty end my ACL rights after 12 months?

No. The 12-month parts warranty is an additional promise. Consumer guarantees are separate and may continue to apply according to the circumstances.

What if the phone has been dropped again?

New physical damage is not automatically a defect in the replacement part. We can inspect the device and explain what we find.

What about liquid-damaged devices?

Liquid damage can cause progressive and unrelated faults. Any later issue needs to be assessed against the specific repair performed, the device's condition and applicable consumer rights.

Can you refuse a claim just because I don't have the paper receipt?

Bring any information you have. We can attempt to locate the repair in our records; the important question is whether the original transaction can be established.
