MacBook not charging or turning on: how we assess the fault

A charging or no-power symptom needs diagnosis before choosing parts. Tell us what happened and whether the files on the computer are your priority.

If your MacBook is not charging or will not turn on, the symptom alone does not tell us which part has failed. The iPhone Guy assesses supported MacBook Air and MacBook Pro hardware faults, including charging, power-input and board-level problems.

Tell us the model and what changed

Bring the exact model details if available, and describe what happened before the problem started. Did the computer stop charging, shut down unexpectedly or fail after liquid exposure? Tell us about any other symptoms and previous repair work.

This history helps guide the assessment. We confirm the machine and available repair options before recommending a particular part or repair.

Charging problems can need different repair paths

Our advertised repair scope includes charging ports, USB-C issues, power-input faults and charging circuitry. A no-power computer can also need component-level diagnosis. We assess the fault before deciding whether a standard parts replacement or specialist board work is appropriate.

Board-level work is part of the IPG repair network. If specialist equipment or another technician is needed, we manage that transfer internally through the store where the job starts.

Tell us when the data matters most

If the computer contains important files that are not backed up, say so at intake. Repairing the computer and recovering its data are related but different goals; the appropriate path depends on the fault.

We can consider data-recovery options case by case. Recovery is not guaranteed. Where possible, keep a backup before handing over a working computer, and explain your priorities before work is approved.

How assessment and approval work

Some obvious faults can be quoted directly. Standard diagnosis requiring disassembly has an $89 assessment fee, explained first. If you proceed after a paid standard assessment, that fee is credited toward the approved repair.

Liquid-damage assessment is $89 and non-refundable. Further parts or repair work are quoted separately. See Pricing & Parts for the current assessment policy.

We explain the findings and available options so you can decide whether further work makes sense. If the required work or cost changes, we contact you before carrying out additional chargeable work.

What to expect from timing

The machine, fault, parts availability and specialist diagnosis all affect timing. We explain the expected repair path after assessment rather than promising a universal turnaround.

Start at an open IPG store

Bring your MacBook to Belmont, Ballarat, Lara or Drysdale in Victoria, Australia. Check current hours first. Geelong West is temporarily closed.

Supported Windows laptop repairs are also available through the same network. The exact repair options depend on the machine and fault.
